Faye Chiao
Faye Chiao is a composer and performer of concert music, opera and musical theater. Chiao has been honored with awards from The Presser Foundation, The Puffin Foundation and OPERA America. Chiao has also been a fellow at the The John Duffy Institute for New Opera at the Virginia Arts Festival, and Composer-In-Residence with the Boston Chamber Symphony and St. David’s Episcopal Church in Baltimore.
Recent performances include: Matter of Moments (book and lyrics by Anton Dudley) [Kenyon College, OH]; Shining Through: Songs of Women in the Stars [Dixon Place, NY]; The Secret Code of Mary Bowser (book and lyrics by Anton Dudley) [Pittsburgh Festival Opera, PA]; Rhyme & Punishment (book and lyrics by Anton Dudley) [Playwrights Realm, NY and American Dream Theater, VA]; The Clinic (book & lyrics by Anton Dudley) [Prospect Theater, NY].
With playwright Tasha Gordon-Solmon, Chiao is at work on two musicals centering the voices of bold and complex women, including Fountain of You which had a recent workshop at Manhattan Theatre Club Creative Studios. With playwright Anton Dudley, Chiao recently completed a family opera commissioned by the Houston Grand Opera, and is working on an original family musical in development with New Victory Theater’s Labworks.
Chiao holds degrees from The Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University.
