Karen Lemon

Karen Lemon is an experienced musician (amongst her qualifications are a PhD in Musicology from the University of Sydney – on Schoenberg’s post-tonal music c.1910 – and a License in Dalcroze Eurhythmics from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh) but a relative novice as a composer. Despite minor studies in composition in her undergraduate days, it has only been in recent years that Karen has returned to it. With this performance by Kaleidoscope, she can now add Los Angeles to Sydney, Shanghai, Paris and Cambridge (UK) as amongst the places she has been privileged to have her work performed, and by such distinguished performers as Thomas Hutchinson, Artur Cimirro, Gwion Thomas, the John Clare Quintet, and the Contemporary Singers. Karen has composed music by commission or on request for CAMS, Hourglass Ensemble and the University of Bristol Schola Cantorum. Several of her works have been prizewinners in composition competitions, including the Renée B. Fisher Awards and Opus Dissonus. Karen has worked as a lecturer in Musicology at the Universities of Sydney and Tasmania in Australia. She currently divides her time between Australia and France. When Karen is not making music, she can usually be found walking by the seaside.
